The Scholarship

What is the purpose of this scholarship?

The scholarship was established to honor a great person, Max Weinstein. Max graduated from the Adelphi Theatre Program in 2002 and passed away unexpectedly in 2020. The family also wanted to help current Adelphi students who may need to work multiple jobs, skip a semester or discontinue their higher education due to financial need.

Who is eligible to apply for this scholarship?

Adelphi University undergraduate theatre students with a major or a minor in Acting or Design/Technology. Students must be in good academic standing and have a minimum of 45 credits completed (15 credits if a transfer student). Students must also be able to demonstrate a financial need.

What is the most important quality that the applicants should demonstrate?

The scholarship will welcome students from any theatre discipline who can demonstrate a passion and investment in supporting and experiencing areas of theatre beyond their area of expertise. Students must show an appreciation, understanding and insatiable curiosity in multiple aspects of theatre - and a love for the collaboration that is Theatre.

What is needed to apply for the scholarship?

Students must be willing to write a statement describing how they have demonstrated the qualities described above. They must also get a recommendation from a professor at Adelphi University who can describe their strengths as well as their dedication and passion for multiple areas of theatre.

What is the size of the scholarship and how many will be awarded?

We will name at least one scholarship winner every year. The scholarship will be for at least $1,500 and will be renewable for the time that the student qualifies. As the fund grows, we will look to increase the number or the amount of the scholarships awarded. There is also an opportunity to be awarded $250 for an honorable mention.
